Mary Chen, who had only a sixth-grade education, rose from working as a domestic helper to becoming the founder of Bao Kang Hospital. She went from poverty to prosperity, relying on herself in everything and still thinking she was “doing well” after becoming a Christian, before truly turning back and realizing that God alone is her greatest treasure and joy. She experienced both mountaintops and valleys, including a hospital fire that left her with almost nothing. Yet God used it to lead her to study at East Lake Theological Seminary, where she came to understand anew what it means to serve God and live as a Christian: “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” She realized that the most important things in life are not money, but life, attitude, and joy. Today, she runs Bao Kang Hospital with this outlook, hoping that many more people will be blessed through it.
