Miracles

Turning Misfortune into Blessing.

By Anonymous · 7/20/2026

Before Christ

Every day, I would spend time reading the Bible, and every week, I would go to church. But I didn't pray. After almost several months, nearly a year, I always heard the sermon preached by the pastor, but it went in one ear and out the other. It was even like how we eat; we completely forget what we ate yesterday. So no matter how busy I was, I insisted on continuing to go to church every week. And every time we sang hymns, I would get goosebumps. Later, I realized that I was a spiritual infant at that time. Growth requires a process, continuous renewal and development. Just like our physical bodies, constantly growing. Our inner selves, our spirits, also need to grow.

How I met Jesus

One instance I remember most clearly, an event of turning misfortune into blessing that I will never forget in my life, occurred at the end of 1999, the week before I was to return to West Malaysia. My colleague and good friend, along with an admirer of hers, a man. The three of us went to Limbang for a half-day trip. They said they wanted to treat me to a meal as a farewell. During the meal, I kept sharing the gospel with them, talking about Jesus. I talked about how I came to believe in Jesus, and I also brought up that second dream. The friend who helped me extinguish that fire and save that idol was this very colleague. On the way home, as soon as I got in the car, my friend, who was sitting in the back, told me to sit in the front. She said she wanted to sleep and would be more comfortable in the back. So I had to sit in the front. Halfway there, we saw a large lorry in front. It was signaling that the driver wanted to turn right. His car light was not... it must have been broken, no signal. This friend of mine saw the hand signal the driver in front made, which he interpreted as telling him to overtake the lorry. What I saw was the car in front informing us, the car behind, that he wanted to turn right. And my friend, who might have had a few cans of beer, misunderstood. I kept telling him to hit the brakes, to slow down and use the brakes, but he pressed the accelerator! I shouted loudly, "Brakes! Brakes! Brakes!" Only then did he brake. A car that accelerates and then needs to stop immediately cannot stop instantly; the entire car produced a screeching sound from the tires. The tires screeched as we continued to rush forward. Wow! I thought, "This time I'm finished, Lord, save me!" The entire car rushed forward and stopped right at the tire of the lorry in front. Wow, the car's windshield just touched the back of the lorry. That is, the front engine part of our car had already entered the back of the lorry. How dangerous! My body was covered in cold sweat at the time, and my heart was pounding non-stop. When I opened my eyes and looked, wow, just thinking about it still frightens me! At that moment, if the car hadn't stopped in time, our car's windshield would have shattered, and my face would have been disfigured. If we had crashed just two more feet further, my head would have been turned into pulp. The thought of it is terrifying! That scene. How can I even describe it? At that time, the driver said, "Escaping a great disaster means there will be future blessings! It really is turning misfortune into blessing!" he said. My colleague said, "Aimee, thankfully you were sitting in the front, otherwise we would have died together."

"2 Timothy 4:17 - But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that through me the message might be fully proclaimed and all the Gentiles might hear it. So I was rescued from the lion’s mouth."
